It bonds to concrete, steel and wood and can be applied over many existing surfaces [VERIFY: ‘directly onto fireproofing’ – keep only if the manufacturer approves it for your projects]. In finished spaces, the AF-90 finish gives a textured acoustic ceiling, or the insulation can be covered by a ceiling system where the design calls for it.

Sound absorption is measured with the noise reduction coefficient (NRC), where 1.0 means almost all sound is absorbed. The AF-90 finish is rated about NRC 0.60 at half an inch and 0.90 at one inch. The right thickness depends on whether the goal is reducing echo, meeting a design target or adding thermal value.
