Frequently Asked Questions

BC homeowners can get up to $5,500 for insulation. Attic insulation earns $0.02 × R-value added × square feet, up to $900. Exterior walls, wall sheathing and basement or crawlspace walls earn $0.09 × R × sq ft, up to $1,200 each, and other areas earn $0.07 × R × sq ft, up to $1,000.

Only a member of the Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN). Do-it-yourself insulation is not eligible, even with the same materials. Ask any contractor you are considering whether they are an HPCN member before you sign, and make sure their invoice shows the details the program requires.

No. The BC Hydro and FortisBC insulation rebate does not require an EnerGuide evaluation; the paid invoice is the supporting document. Pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation rebates were discontinued in April 2022, and the federal Greener Homes Grant, which required audits, is closed to new applicants.

You must submit your application and supporting documents within 6 months of the invoice date. Apply as soon as the work is paid for, using the invoice your contractor provides, which must show each location, insulation type, starting and final R-value and the square footage insulated.

Yes. If old insulation is removed because of pests or mould, the rebate is based on the difference between the new and pre-existing insulation. The program may assume a minimum starting R-value based on your home’s age. The removal itself is not rebated, but the new insulation is.

Yes. The CleanBC Energy Savings Program pays higher rates to income-qualified households: up to $0.05 × R × sq ft for attics and $0.20 × R × sq ft for walls and basements or crawlspaces at Income Level 1, with maximums of $2,000 per area. A program-registered contractor submits these applications.
